Races can only exist because of racism

Maybe we should stop and think about this. If nobody discriminated on racial grounds when choosing a partner, it seems in this globalized world that distinct races should be rapidly disappearing. Apparently it seems interracial marriage is lower than it should be on a per-capita basis. Obviously we should all be imprisoned for hate crimes.

Interesting thought, but the fact of the matter is that most people are pretty narcisistic when it comes to choosing a partner. I know this is true for me, I love guys with dark hair and blue or green eyes - which only occured to me a couple of years ago is what I look like (okay so my hair has to be dyed not to be an awful medium non-descript brown...)
That being said, there is also a cultral component to how we classify different groups as well. My identity as a white middle class, university educated protestant is different to some one who could use all those adjectives except say one or two. For example I relate better to some one from virtually the same back ground than some one who was similar but Jewish or Asian or even grew up with parents on welfare (but still went to uni etc).
Our ambitions and expectations are cultural, but there is also a racial element that divides even those that grew up in the same country, city or suburb, because it's how we identify ourselves, even before some one else judges our value.
